Priority Syx
Priority Syx (P6) is a hip hop/rap group from the Southeastern United States founded by member Versal in late 2003, while living overseas. Priority Syx is considered to be not only a rap group, but a family/label/lifestyle/movement. Versal began the idea of a group of emcees that are “consistent with song making and freestyles.” He then brought the idea to his friend Champ, who was in 100% accordance. Shortly thereafter, Versal’s younger brother Fila, a.k.a. Mr. Yella Fella joined the movement. The three began recording in headphones though laptops (literally).
People loved the initial ideas of their music, but the group had problems with their sound quality. Priority Syx then invested in a recording program and a mic, and the rest was history. In 2004, the group added the lyricist Gully to their roster. Gully had a unique flow and “brought a lot to the table.” The group was more than happy to have him. After recording and releasing several mixtapes (with the help of Boog, Krazy, BG, H Spitts, Sane, and Streets- also members of the Priority Syx movement), fans of P6 just couldn’t get enough. The group began doing shows at schools, community centers, and local venues to increase their exposure.
As Priority Syx began to gain notoriety, other rap groups in their areas began to experience a loss of fans to P6, and as a result, began recording diss tracks. Contrary to their expectations, however, the diss tracks did nothing more to P6 than motivate them to continue the buzz that they had already started. By 2005, Priority Syx added another vocalist to their group, named Nasty. Nasty wanted to become involved in the direction that P6 was moving, and added to the group battling and freestyling skills that left audiences ecstatic.
Priority Syx then met up with Eric McSwayne, who taught them essentials about the business side of the music industry. McSwayne made it possible for the group to record in a professional studio as well as get on television and in venues, for which P6 shows much respect for him to this day. In 2006, the members of Priority Syx had to part ways with each other to attend college in the United States. Rather than neglecting their musical careers, however, the members of P6 learned to make songs as solo artists, which they believe has helped their group grow into what it is today.
For the following several years, each member of P6 has focused on their solo careers, in addition to keeping in touch with each other. They’ve also added an additional member, Versal’s close friend from the nineties, named Ekademic. Versal then released tracks suck as Suppose 2 BE and War, appeared on Fila’s track, Dis Shh is Easy, and has began his own musical production company, Versal Productions.
Fila has since been consistently releasing his Ball Hard or Fall Hard mixtapes, and has released songs such as Hate, MOB, Dis My Shh and Dis Shh is Easy. Champ has released Clean Off the Map, All Day, and Watch Me. Gully has released several tracks including Can I Do Me and World Class G, and has appeared on the song Pleasure. Nasty has released songs like Welcome to Virginia, Day Dreamin’ and I Told You. Ekidemic has released such songs as the hit single, Turn Up My Swag, and Hata Blockas; as well as appeared on the song, Duck When They Play Dis.
In 2008, Champ discussed the group’s plans to one day reunite with Great Productions’ CEO Dane Boles, who immediately seized an opportunity to become involved with what he claims is “one of the most promising and innovative hip hop groups since the Wu Tang Clan.” After negotiations between the group and Great Productions, Priority Syx is currently working on their first complete group album featuring the founding six members. They immediately recorded and released the hit party single, Wasted, with a guest appearance by another Great Productions artist, Off Topic, on a mixtape release entitled “Wasted- The Mixtape.” The Priority Syx full length album is scheduled for release during 2009.
With immaculately built verses and hooks, in addition to an already established fan base that is craving more of P6, the group’s album release is sure to stir up quite a commotion in the hip hop industry. Priority Syx has already established themselves online and in various locations in the Southeastern US including Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and Texas. Priority Syx has set a standard of lyricism and meaning that is often imitated in the hip hop industry, but requires talented, dedicated professionals such as Priority Syx to execute. Their unique style and picturesque lyricism leaves P6 truly unmatched in today’s hip hop industry.
