DjDaneTheGreat, born Lawrence Dane Boles on August 10, 1985 in Hollywood, FL, is an all-around musician and music industry entrepreneur. With a long history in various endeavors within the music industry, Dane has the experience and knowledge required to achieve in various realms of the musical world. His dedication and commitment to music is evident in his long musical career and his variety of musical knowledge.
By the time DjDaneTheGreat was is second grade, he had discovered his passion for music and undertook lessons in bagpipe performance and musical theory. By the sixth grade, Dane was an active participant in his school’s symphonic band, in which he gained his first experiences in live performances as the band’s sole coronet player. Before the seventh grade, Dane’s family had invested in a bass guitar for him, and he quickly adapted to the change of instrumentation and performed with the band, The Cheapskates, at his school’s annual talent showcase.
As DjDaneTheGreat began attending high school, his musical career soared. He performed in bands, as well as a solo performance artist at his school’s talent functions. He began learning theory in marching band percussion, which dramatically increased his musical skill and ability. The drum line in which Dane was a member of went on to be state champions in marching competition that year. DjDaneTheGreat continued to perform bass with his school’s jazz band, and began instruction on guitar, keys, and theory, while educating himself on musical history, music industry relations, and societal and popular culture. During his high school days, he also began his own self employment as a mobile disc jockey, spinning mostly hip hop and reggae, although having a knowledge and collection of everything from Frank Sinatra to Rage Against The Machine.
After High School, DjDaneTheGreat had aquired a confidence in his musical abilities, and traveled to Tallahassee, Florida to study English, which he chose in order to “increase his songwriting abilities.” While in attendance at FSU, his roommate had introduced him to the world of sound production, with two little computer programs called Fruity Loops and Acid. Dane seized this opportunity and immediately began creating original digital works of his own, which he continued throughout his college days.
After attending Florida State University to receive his Associates Degree, Dane transferred to Florida Atlantic University to continue to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in English. It was during this time that he also played bass for a successful band called Haven Asche. While with Haven Asche, DjDaneTheGreat wrote, recorded, and performed two EP’s and played at several renowned venues in the South Florida area regularly. Although successful, the band dismembered after a failed contract negotiation in addition to the loss of their drummer/producer.
Currently, after acquiring a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Atlantic University, DjDaneTheGreat has since returned to Tallahassee, FL, and has created an independent record label and production company, Great Productions. Dane remains active in production, recording, performance, marketing and management of several various musical endeavors, and is continuously finding knew ways to expand upon his musical creativity and knowledge. He resides with his girlfriend,Vera, who assists him in the operations of Great Productions, and their cat Lucifer, who assists him in creating organized mass chaos throughout the Tallahassee area.
